Regimen's Take

A multifunctional ingredient with antioxidant, antiaging properties, but best studied for pigmentation. Compared to hydroquinone or kojic acid, which inhibit one step in the pigmentation cycle, HR inhibits several. This makes it an excellent at prevention of hyperpigmentation. Fun fact: it's antiseptic properties make it commonly used it throat lozenges, these are also being investigated for anti-acne uses!

  • We love hexylresorcinol. We think this is an underrated active.
  • Known synergies with niacinamide, acetyl zingerone, bakuchiol.
  • Since it's a phenolic compound, look for products that also contain chelators (EDTA, BHT) or else the ingredient could be inert by the time the manufacturer bottles it!
